Spain is thoroughly corrupt. It feels almost all Spaniards in Spain. A study by the European Commission shows that 95 percent of Spain citizens believe that corruption is Spain’s biggest problem.

It is surpassed only by the inhabitants of Greece – where 99 percent believe in the same thing – and Italy by 97 percent. European Commission Report clearly shows that corruption is a major problem in Europe, and three out of four EU citizens believe that corruption is today a general institutional problem.

And if you think that corruption has become smaller over the years, you can think about. When asked about the level of corruption has increased over the past three years, says 77 percent yes to the Spanish citizens, and it is the highest figure among the residents of the other 27 EU Member States.

Two out of three respondents Spaniards also says that corruption affects their daily life, and it is the largest share among all Member States.

The survey was conducted in February and March 2013, when it appeared a series of corruption scandals in which those involved were members of the government, trade unions, political parties and the monarchy.

The Scandinavian countries were the European countries that had the lowest level of corruption. In Denmark answered 75 percent of respondents said that corruption is something “unusual”, followed by 64 per cent in Finland and 54 percent in Sweden.

The European Commission report concludes that the legal measures taken across Europe to combat corruption are inadequate, and that in many cases there is no “political will to eradicate corruption.”

After all the corruption scandals in Spain in recent years was the Malaya corruption scandal in Marbella one of the first and largest with mayors Gil, Julian Muñoz and Marisol Yague and Juan Antonio Roca, who came across more than 600 million Euros under 15 years by illegally selling municipal land to construction companies who also did get illegal building permit to construct Marbella apartments, townhouses and villas in Marbella.
